Organoclay Solutions by Performance Problem

Most rheology problems in solvent-based industrial formulations share a root cause: insufficient structured viscosity at rest. Organoclay solves this with a single additive — find your specific challenge below.

Anti-Settling Agent

Pigments and fillers sinking to the bottom of paint, ink, or coating containers during storage — forming hard cake that cannot be re-dispersed. Organoclay builds a thixotropic platelet gel network that suspends dense particles (TiO₂, BaSO₄, Fe₂O₃) at rest for 12+ months, while collapsing instantly under stirring shear.

  • Prevents hard sediment in solvent-based paints, inks, and primers
  • Effective at 0.2–1.5 wt% — lowest dosage of any anti-settling class
  • Dual function: also prevents sag on applied vertical surfaces
  • Thermally stable — maintains anti-settling performance at 50–80°C storage

Viscosity Control

Industrial formulations need high viscosity at rest (anti-settling, anti-sagging, cutting transport) and low viscosity under shear (easy pumping, spraying, application). Organoclay provides both simultaneously through thixotropic gel behavior — no other single additive class achieves this combination at 0.2–2.0 wt% dosage.

  • Thixotropic index 3.0–8.0 in solvent-based coatings
  • Yield point 10–25 Pa in oil-based drilling fluids for cutting transport
  • NLGI 1–3 grease consistency at 8–15 wt% in base oil
  • Thermally stable viscosity profile from −20°C to 180°C

Fluid Loss Control in Oil-Based Mud

Measure filtration and filter-cake response in a matched oil-based mud trial. Organoclay is primarily a rheology additive; any contribution to fluid-loss control must be verified in the complete formulation.
